Where is the Laurel College Center (LCC)? The LCC is located at 312 Marshall Avenue in downtown Laurel near the Laurel Shopping Center and the Laurel Mall. See Maps & Directions. Who can take classes at the LCC? Anyone! The Laurel College Center seeks to make higher education accessible to people who work or live in the Laurel area, especially those whose home residence is in either Prince George's County or Howard County. However, anyone can take classes. You may never have taken a college class before, or you already may be enrolled in a college. The LCC is open to you. What is offered? At the LCC, you can take individual courses, credit and noncredit, or you can earn complete college degrees. Associate of arts degrees offered are in business administration, general studies, teachers education, criminal justice, and applied information technology.
See Schedule of Classes for all credit and noncredit courses offered at the LCC, as well as at PGCC and HCC. Please note that there are two categories of schedules, one for students enrolling through Prince George's Community College (PGCC); and another for students enrolling through Howard Community College (HCC).
For noncredit classes, please refer to the schedule for your county of residence (if your county of residence is other than Prince George's or Howard county, please refer to the PGCC schedule).
If you are interested in credit courses, you will first need to enroll in either PGCC or HCC, and then register through that college (see "How do I start?" below). What is the difference between credit and noncredit courses? Credit classes earn academic credit that can be applied to a degree or certificate (but can be taken even if you are not seeking a degree). A typical three-credit course would require about 45 hours of class time.
Noncredit classes are generally shorter and focus on specific topics to enhance job skills or explore a personal interest. No credit is given for noncredit classes, but continuing education units (CEUs) may be awarded for some courses. How do I start? If you are a New Student and want to take credit classes, first choose the college in which you want to enroll: PGCC or HCC. Then complete and submit an application for admission to that college. Proof of residency is required upon request. Admissions applications may be obtained at and submitted to the LCC administrative office (Room 205) or your home campus. Applications can also be downloaded, click here. If you are mailing a PGCC application, be sure to include payment of the application fee. See the PGCC or HCC Continuing Education schedule of classes for Non Credit Registration and Payment information. Can someone assist me in selecting courses and enrolling? Absolutely. Advisers from PGCC and HCC can discuss your interests, provide career information and tell you about services such as financial aid, placement testing and support for students with disabilities. They also can help with the required steps for enrolling, such as taking placement test. Click here for advising hours. Students are encouraged, whenever possible, to meet with advisers from their home campuses. How do I register for classes? Credit classes and noncredit classes have separate registration procedures. For credit classes, click here for Registration. For noncredit classes, see the schedule of classes or click here for NonCredit Registration information. When do I register for classes? For noncredit classes, registration is ongoing and determined by the start date of the class. You can register up to the first day of class. But classes fill quickly, so you are encouraged to register at least two weeks before the start date. The timetable for credit registration is determined by the start of the term. Check the calendar in the current semester PGCC or HCC Schedule of Classes for more information. How much do classes cost? The cost of credit classes is determined by the tuition rates and fees of PGCC and HCC. The total cost of a class varies slightly depending on your county of residence.
The tuition costs of noncredit classes are given in the course descriptions in the Schedule of Classes. Is financial aid available? Yes. PGCC and HCC provide information on scholarships, grants, loans and other assistance for credit students. Due to the complexity of determining eligibility for financial aid, you are advised to work through your home campus. However, financial aid applications are available at the LCC along with general information on processing procedures and deadlines. Go to Financial Aid for more information. Where do I get books? LCC does not have an on-site bookstore. Textbooks are purchased through the PGCC or HCC bookstores on main campus. Go to Bookstore for more information. Where do I park? During the day, you must park in the yellow-lined spaces at the Laurel Shopping Center. Take the walkway between Books-A-Million and Sprint to the 2nd floor entrance of the LCC building. After 5:00p.m. and on Saturdays, you may park in the lots in front of or to the side of the LCC building on Marshall Avenue. Parking passes are not needed. Parking is free. |
