The University of Maryland University College (UMUC) offers a variety of learning formats convenient to busy adult students who must balance the demands of full-time jobs, family, and community responsibilities. As a globally-focused university serving more than 90,000 students worldwide, UMUC offers an unparalleled breadth of bachelor's and graduate degree programs, each tailored to help students acquire industry- and career-focused qualifications for the marketplace. UMUC specializes in serving community college transfer students through the Alliance program, www.umuc.edu/alliances. UMUC offers courses towards three Bachelor of Science degrees at the Laurel College Center:

  • Criminal Justice
  • Information Systems Management
  • Social Science

Students would complete the first two years of the four-year bachelor’s degrees through programs offered at the LCC by Prince George’s Community College and Howard Community College.  For the third and fourth years, UMUC offers classes at the LCC or via the Internet in an online format.

Criminal Justice (Bachelor of Science)

The criminal justice program provides students with an understanding of the nature of crime and the personnel, institutions and processes that prevent or respond to crime. Students learn both the theory and practice of the criminal justice system. The curriculum covers crime and criminal behavior, law enforcement, courts, corrections, security and investigation. It provides a solid foundation for further study or entry into a variety of criminal justice professions. Click here for more information.

Information Systems Management (Bachelor of Science)

The information systems management major develops students' abilities to conceptualize and manage the design and implementation of high-quality information systems. The curriculum focuses on the concepts, methods and practical applications of information systems in the workplace. Students are provided the skills needed to make substantive contributions to the use of information systems in corporate decision making. Click here for more information.

Social Science (Bachelor of Science)

The social science major provides breadth of knowledge in the social sciences through interdisciplinary study in areas such as anthropology, behavioral sciences, economics, gerontology, government and politics, psychology and sociology and depth through focused study in a single area. It also offers depth and focus through selection of core courses in one social science area. Graduates in social science may pursue a variety of careers in which understanding of social science is important, including business administration, elder care, government, health services, law enforcement, human resources and community service.
